A civic platform I designed and built myself. It brings local government meetings, agendas, and news coverage for North Carolina communities into one place.
Approach
How I approached it
CivicUpdate answers a few simple questions for people who aren’t experts in local government: what’s happening where I live this week, what was decided last week, and what is the local news covering. It collects meetings, agendas, and news from local governments across North Carolina and shows them through a location selector and a daily briefing that takes about a minute to read.
I handled all of it: strategy, site structure, design, front end, back end, the content system, and running it day to day.

Key decisions
- Written in plain language, with a daily briefing you can read in about a minute
- Covers North Carolina now and is built so other areas can be added
- Shows that I build working software as well as marketing websites
